Sweden is in the process of abolishing the concluding segment of the ‘gymnasium law’.

The gymnasium law, designed to offer refugees who arrived in Sweden in 2015 a route to stay in the country if they completed upper secondary school, expired on January 20th. How did the law work? It was essentially an amnesty law which gave those whose asylum claims were rejected temporary residency in Sweden to complete their studies at upper secondary school, after which they had six months to get a job. From the start, it was never meant to be permanent, and it has been phased out successively since December 2023, when the possibility of extending a residence permit due to upper secondary school studies was removed. So does this mean that no one who has one of these permits can get permanent residency? Not quite. There are still a few situations where asylum seekers who had permits under the […]

Former Police Officer Ekene Nwosu Alleged To Have Orchestrated A Huge Frame-Up Operation In Akwa Ibom

Uyo, Akwa Ibom — The recent passing of a controversial police officer, CSP Ekene Joseph Nwosu, in Ekiti State has sparked renewed outrage among alleged victims who assert that he was responsible for a widespread campaign of human rights violations and wrongful imprisonment in Akwa Ibom State. Numerous individuals have stepped forward with distressing accounts claiming that Nwosu, who was part of the Anti-Robbery Unit, masterminded the arrest and incarceration of over 500 innocent Nigerians under false allegations. They accuse him of fabricating charges against civilians, unlawfully confiscating their vehicles, and selling them off through fraudulent court orders. One of the most outspoken accusers, Da Zion Umoh, alleges that he was arrested and held naked in a police cell for nearly two days after he intervened in the case of another victim whose car had reportedly been seized and sold […]

Simon Ekpa Faces Legal Accountability: Finnish Court Sanctions Extradition to Nigeria

In a significant move with extensive consequences for both regional security and international justice, Finnish officials have sanctioned the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a contentious Finnish-Nigerian separatist activist, to Nigeria. This transfer is set for July 15, 2025, following a decision by the Päijät-Häme District Court in Lahti on April 18, 2025. Ekpa, who has proclaimed himself the 'Prime Minister' of the self-proclaimed Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile, has been a prominent figure in the rise of aggressive separatist rhetoric. Contrary to ongoing claims in Nigerian media and certain government declarations, Simon Ekpa is not connected to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which has consistently distanced itself from him. IPOB asserts that it has no factions and does not acknowledge Ekpa's leadership or actions. Instead, Ekpa heads a self-established group called 'Autopilot' and has been associated with a criminal armed faction […]

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs bid to delay trial denied

A federal judge in New York rejected a request on Friday to postpone Sean “Diddy” Combs' sex-trafficking trial by two months, despite his attorneys' plea for additional time to prepare their defense. Judge Arun Subramanian confirmed that jury selection will commence on May 5 as originally planned. He expressed skepticism regarding the need for more preparation time, particularly after two new charges were added to the case earlier this month. Prosecutors had opposed the request for a trial delay. Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to five charges, including sex trafficking, transportation for prostitution, and racketeering conspiracy, which prosecutors allege took place over two decades. He has been in federal custody in New York City since his arrest last September. Prosecutors claim that Combs and others coerced at least three women into sexual acts with him and, at times, with […]

BREAKING: 'The Vice President is a Spare Tyre, But in Kashim's Case, He’s a Flat Spare Tyre'; Ex-SGF Lawal Suggests He Should Resign In a sharp critique of Nigeria's political scene, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, has labeled Vice President Kashim Shettima as a "flat spare tyre," implying that he is ineffective and should contemplate stepping down. These comments, made during an interview, reflect Lawal's broader discontent with the current administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). A notable figure from the now-defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Lawal voiced his frustration with the APC's governance, accusing it of neglecting the poor and worsening issues of hunger and injustice. He characterized the Vice President's role as predominantly ceremonial, limited to attending social events and lacking substantial influence or representation of the President […]
